| Laetitia Casta's Biography |
In spite of the fact that she was born and grown in Normandie (her mother's region), Laetitia Casta feels completely corsian (her father's corsian). Laetitia Casta has passed her teenager years in Lumio, a little village (1500 inhabitants) sited in the nortwestern side of Corsica, just 10 kms. away from Calvi city. In July 1995 she won "Miss Lumio" contest and at the age of 15 she was discovered in Arenella Beach in the vicinity of Lumio by a photographer launching her to fame.
She went to her first casting when she was 15 after leaving school and she was really frightened. She didn't want to be a model at all, but she realized that she knew how to be expressive and how to be the same person inside at the same time. The casting viewers were very surprised of Laetitia's short height and because she were still holding her school bag!. She didn't bring a photo book but a small notebook with a few Polaroid photos. When they saw that they broke off laughing.
Paul Marciano (GUESS inc. president) selected her for a marketing campaign in Jamaica in October 1994. After a time she became "the GUESS girl" and when she was 18 she made her last work for the firm: "Stretch" en which she was taken photos by Dewey Nicks in Palm Beach and Laguna Beach,California.
She's the mythical "girl nextdoor" once championed by Playboy, the beautiful woman whose approachability gives hope to drooling guys nextdoor the world over. Sure, the "clothes by Vogue, body by Penthouse" thing she has going already sets her apart from most models, but with all the silicon competition out there, it's her seeming "still one of us" availability that in the end raises her up into a category of her own, and will probably be her more enduring legacy to the industry.
